| The trap of "Why me?" It sounds innocent. Even humble. But it's one of the sneakiest mindset traps I've seen. It creeps in right when you're about to raise your hand, speak up, apply, or lead. And just like that, you shrink back. You delay. You stay in place. | ||||||
| That voice doesn't speak from logic. It speaks from fear. The fear of being seen. The fear of being wrong. The fear of wanting more. | ||||||
| There was a time I said no to every opportunity that stretched me. Not because I couldn't do it, but because I couldn't see myself in it. Then one day I heard someone say: "If someone is going to do it, why not you?" It hit me hard. And it rewired something deep. | ||||||
| Most people stay stuck because they're asking the wrong question | ||||||
| They confuse fear with fact. They wait for permission. They believe confidence comes first. They assume others are more ready. They fear rejection more than regret. But the people who break through ask a better question: "Why not me?" Not with arrogance. But with belief that even if it feels uncomfortable, even if it feels like a long shot, they're going to try. | ||||||
| Here's how to start making the shift | ||||||
| Notice your hesitation. Pay attention to the exact moment you hold back and ask yourself: Is this fear or truth? Is this doubt or data? | ||||||
| Use "Why not me?" as an interruption. Say it to yourself. Out loud if needed. It will feel uncomfortable at first. Say it anyway. | ||||||
| Track your wins. Keep a simple note on your phone. Write down small things you've done well. Use it as proof when doubt creeps in. | ||||||
| Act before you feel ready. Don't wait to be perfectly prepared. Apply. Raise your hand. Make the ask. Confidence is built through action, not before it. | ||||||
| Sometimes the only thing standing between your current life and the one you really want is one better question: Why not me? | ||||||
